5 of 5 Easy Install, Flexible Setup and Results on Day 1 May 31, 2017
Reviewer: James Lui from Los Angeles, CA United States
The build quality is great and designed for 4-season durability. Being in LA, the most we have to usually deal with are occasional semi-high winds (to 75 mph.) I chose to plop my panels on top of an existing patio pergola, since we had an existing 15A breaker for a single light fixture and accessory power. After noting the various options for daisy chaining the panel sets together (end-to-end, side-to-side) I ended up with 14 panels on a 12x12 pergola surface (the last 2 mounted perpendicularly to the others - works fine.) With an unobstructed line-of-sight to the sun, I get about 8 hours of full-sun per day, and peak at about 1,000W (at 120.2VAC) or so. Cloudy days, you get less (usually around 3-400W.) Enough to keep us well under Tier-1 pricing, even this small setup is enough to have a 4-year breakeven (and I still have an extra 3 sets of panels to mount once I figure out which way I want to go - add to existing, or get another Starter Set and do a driveway-side 2nd installation.)
